Yin and Yang are the complementary principles of life, and Yin Yoga provides the perfect opportunity to balance out our typically Yang-dominated modern lifestyle. This practice offers the time and space to approach life differently, resulting in a greater feeling of physical, mental, and emotional harmony. Yin Yoga allows for deep introspection and meditative practice, fostering resilience, steadfastness and inner peace.

WHY IS IT GOOD FOR ME

From a physical standpoint, Yin Yoga creates mobility and flexibility across all major parts of the body. It focuses on tight muscles and goes beyond to bring length and suppleness to our connective tissue, or fascia, which plays a pivotal role in our physical capabilities. Yin Yoga uniquely offers a time and space for meditative practice, allowing us to understand how we think, function, and react, especially in moments of discomfort, quiet, and stillness. This leads to a greater sense of resilience and the ability to face any challenge. From an energetic standpoint, Yin Yoga targets the traditional Chinese medicine meridian channels, promoting a greater sense of harmony and flow within our energetic system.

WHAT WILL I DO

In this class, we practice the tenets of Yin: time, edge, and surrender. You will experience up to 8 grounded poses, holding each for around 5-6 minutes. This involves finding your physical, mental, and emotional edge and choosing to stay in it. Practicing close to the ground, you will be supported by your mat, blocks, blanket, and bolster. This setup allows for deep stretches and a meditative focus, promoting both physical and mental relaxation and growth.
